Biography
Alexz Johnson, born Alexzandra Spencer Johnson, in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada began to frequently sing for her large extended family at the age of three. By the age of seven she was receiving vocal training, participating in festivals with her local youth choir, and giving solo performances. Duringt his time she entered many talent contests and festivals, and won a National Anthem contest at the age of 11. Her rendition of the National Anthem could be heard on national television, which resulted in numerous radio and television interviews, and interest from management.

She moved to acting, landing auditions for commercials and a showcase for a pilot called "America's Most Talented Kid". At the age of 13, she auditioned for the Disney television series "So Weird" which, for the final season of the show, was looking for an actress that could sing. This role became a tough assignment, as the show shifted from "darker" to "lighter" and previous lead actress Cara DeLizia had parted the show. However, Alexz managed to gain a fan base on both her acting and her singing as the show managed to retain it's popularity. Despite, many fan requests, the songs from "So Weird" are not generally available.

In 2004, Alexz sent in an audition tape to the producers of Degrassi: The Next Generation who were working on a new show "Instant Star". They happened to be specifically looking for a Canadian teen actress/vocalist to play the lead role, Jude Harrison. After the first audition tape, Executive Producer Stephen Stohn was convinced Alexz was perfect for the role. Despite that auditions continued but in the end they returned to Alexz Johnson.
